World Book Day Events
To celebrate world book day, our artists have been out and about at schools all week.
Garry Parsons has been at various primary schools with Gareth P Jones, Josh Lacey and the team from Andersen. Garry was set a drawing challenge by the children in every classroom he visited, the toughest by far was the mighty task of drawing 'a whale on a beach in a football stadium!’
Garry was also asked to illustrate everybody's favourite pooping dinosaur for a special World Book Day edition. Garry, Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter and the team at Random House pulled out all the stops for the pooptastic 'The Dinosaur That Pooped A Lot'.
Hannah George was invited to Liss Infant School to talk about her fabulous 'Dr Duck' picture book. After giving the children a basic idea about what an illustrator does, Hannah read Dr Duck (where the Gorilla’s big pink and yellow spotty underpants were a big hit!). Hannah then set the kids to work with fun colouring in challenges and also gave a master class in how to add character and expression to drawings.
Anna Hymas had a busy day at the Betty Layward School, running six workshops! Anna started in the Reception class, where she read her picture book Lighty Faust and made paper plate lion faces. Anna then moved on to Year 1 where she asked the children to draw an imaginary friend and write a sentence or two about it’s superpowers. Anna finished her day with year 2 where she asked the students to draw imaginary creatures and to write a short rhyming verse. Anna enjoyed a busy fun filled day!
